By getting their young children involved on a conscious and connected level, holistic parents can empower kids at an early age with mind, body, and spirit wellness.

Educating children about holistic healing can provide them with tools to develop self-awareness, increase intuition, promote healing, foster a connection with Mother Earth, and decrease stress.

Review the following five methods in which kids can form a conscious, healing relationship between themselves and the spiritual energy contained within all of life.

Meditating With Kids

Children are not immune to the effects of stress, although the stressful stimulus may vary from adults. Through the use of guided meditation, parents or instructors can help children focus and let go of any repetitive, disturbing thoughts or feelings that act as stressors.

The benefits of meditation for children include an overall sense of calmness, increased concentration, and improved flexibility. As a family-time activity, such as listening to a meditation CD together, group meditation with children can strengthen bonds, improve the quality of relationships, and create a pathway for open communication.

Children Working With Angels

Young children may readily see and hear angels and believe it is natural for everyone to do so. Develop trust with the child by listening to his encounters, reviewing any pictures he draws, and educating him on how he can call upon certain angels, like Michael, Chamuel, or Raphael, for assistance with specific tasks.

If the child talks about a voice or spiritual vision, be sure to address the nature of the experience. Angelic assistance will always be loving, supportive, and healing. Angels or other heavenly guides will never suggest harm to self or others.

Kids and Energy Healing

Working with subtle energy fields of children is an emerging paradigm related to holistic healing. According to Mary Riposo, the Japanese technique of Reiki energy healing can alleviate symptoms of childhood problems such as learning difficulties, temper tantrums, and general fear-related issues.

Children can participate in Reiki or other forms of energy healing by becoming the recipient or learning the technique themselves. Reiki treatments for kids can increase healthy flow of chi, or invisible energy, and tend to create happier, resilient, and overall balanced children.

Children and Crystal Magic

Kids, initially attracted to their color, shimmer, and structure, seem to gravitate easily toward crystals and gemstones. Introducing children to the energetic and healing properties of crystals can help them understand the profound connection between Earth's resources and vibrational medicine.

If the child shows an interest, take her to a rock or gem show, metaphysical store, or geologic museum. Explain to her how different stones can help with healing different parts of the body or by promoting attributes like intuitive abilities and self-love. Kids can easily receive instruction on cleansing negative energy from crystals and charging them with positive intentions.

Chakra Clearing and Kids

Vortices of energy within the body, known as chakras, correlate with characteristics such as sense of security, self-esteem, creative expression, and intuitive wisdom. Children who are aware of this relationship may be more open and willing to clear and balance their chakras in order to support holistic healing.

Dr. Anodea Judith actually suggests a model of childhood development based on the seven main chakras in the body. Through this system, she offers recommendations to foster healthy chakras, such as promote embodiment through frequent holding and touching and establish trust through bonding.

The holistic parenting movement is expanding as mothers, fathers, and caregivers in general increase their own awareness of the interrelationship of one's mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves.

Holistic healing tools and modalities for children are also popular. For example, more yoga centers are incorporating kid's yoga and meditation into their programs, metaphysical and spiritual publishers have branched into the children's market, and age-appropriate, holistic toys are now mass-produced.

I would appreciate information on how/where the Chakra Bear can be purchased. I have one and he's so cute we're thinking he can be used in our work at Healing Touch Texas.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kia Abilay of Kia Kreations designed the Chakra Bear, but unfortunately I am unable to access that website. Kia has another website called RainbowHeart.net, and perhaps you can contact her through that one.

There's also a good children's book covering the chakras - Seven Spirals: A Chakra Sutra for Kids. It is a picture storybook following 7 everyday kids through a weekend of their lives, while giving a glimpse of the seven chakras and using them as themes for each of the 7 vignettes. At the end it also has a reference describing each chakra its location, as well as a details for a quick chakra "tune-up".

I have to say, I'm quite happy with the increasing number of children's books like this one that are out there now related that are more spiritual and holistic in nature. Hopefully this trend will only continue to grow in years to come. :)
